Altcountry.nl Review of The Long Fall Of The Wayward Sons

Huke Green sings as if he's been under the ground. His throat full of mud and grit. The man can't sing, as we learned from the many comments on the review of his brilliant record Rustic Poet (see here). For me personally, that doesn't matter. I find it's great... very beautiful even. And many agree according to the plentiful positive responses received. In The Wayward Sons Green sings half the songs, the other half we hear Samuel Barker whose All This For Gas Money we also discussed (see here). The Long Fall Of The Wayward Sons (Ne'er-Do-Well Records) is deliciously raw. This is all from the instrumentation. Green plays acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo and tambourine alongside an American Tourister suitcase kick drum and a 1959 Illinois license plate, while Barker in addition to acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, resonator and tambourine plays a Samsonite suitcase kick drum. The men from Houston are just as happy to play in a room or on a street corner as in one of the many music halls of Texas .
